Is it possible to understand the Istanbul Canal with drawings?
Kanal Istanbul, which is designed as a real estate venture that aims to transfer capital to a small minority at the expense of leaving future generations with a huge debt burden.
Scientists, experts, professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, local governments and citizens have opposed it since the day it was first introduced. All scientific studies, without exception, agreed that this project idea, if implemented, would lead to economic, social and environmental disasters. In addition, in the field studies carried out by independent public opinion research companies, it has been seen that a very important majority of the citizens are against this project idea.
The Istanbul Canal project idea, which clearly contradicts the spatial plan provisions that are still in effect, proposes spatial interventions that will make the city unlivable by crossing the social and natural thresholds of Istanbul. It is seen that the cultural heritage will be destroyed during the excavation and construction works that will displace hundreds of thousands of local residents. The initiative, which will destroy existing agricultural lands, drinking water dams, forestry and pasture areas, proposes practices that will also cause sea pollution from the Marmara to the Mediterranean. It is inevitable that Istanbul, which is at risk of earthquakes, will increase its fragility after this huge spatial intervention.
10 different scenarios are examined in the following booklet prepared to make the destruction caused by the Istanbul Canal more visible.
